A 20-year-old Mundelein man was arrested Tuesday in connection with a fatal shooting that occurred Monday night in a strip mall parking lot. Joaquin Romero faces charges related to firearm possession and obstructing justice in connection with the death of Luis Moreno, 21, from Wheeling.

The Shooting
The incident took place around 7:10 p.m. in the 700 block of South Lake Street. According to the Lake County Major Crimes Task Force, Moreno was shot in the parking lot and was subsequently transported to Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville, where he tragically died from his injuries.
Arrest and Charges
Detectives investigated the case and identified the vehicle used in the homicide. They determined that Romero was present in the vehicle at the time of the shooting. Law enforcement alleges that Romero not only possessed the firearm used in the shooting but also attempted to hide it afterward.

Romero was arrested without incident on Tuesday in Round Lake. He has been charged with:
- Aggravated unlawful possession of a firearm
- Obstructing justice
He was expected to appear in court on Wednesday morning.
Christopher Covelli, public information officer for the Lake County Major Crimes Task Force, confirmed that while Romero has been charged, no one has yet been charged with murder. The investigation into the homicide is ongoing.
