Shots Fired Near Grayslake Metra Station Halt Train Traffic

On Wednesday evening, reports of gunfire near Lake Street Metra station in Grayslake caused temporary disruptions and led to an ongoing police investigation. Grayslake-Hainesville Police Department quickly responded after reports of shots fired at approximately 7:45 p.m. prompting swift law enforcement action and significantly disrupting Metra service.

Metra issued an alert around 8:15 p.m. notifying passengers that trains on the Milwaukee District North line had been stopped due to police activity, specifically train 2147, which was scheduled to arrive in Fox Lake at 8:15 pm and had experienced significant delays due to this police investigation. Other trains inbound or departing Fox Lake also experienced delays due to this police probe.

Grayslake-Hainesville Police Chief Jeff Myhra confirmed that while the incident did not take place at the Metra station directly, it occurred nearby. Officers discovered numerous spent handgun shell casings along railroad tracks near Glen Street Apartments located west of Alleghany Road and southeast of Grayslake-Hainesville Station.

No Injuries Reported

Although this incident was distressing, authorities reported no injuries as no indication was found suggesting the shots were directed against any specific individual or object. Chief Myhra noted there was no proof suggesting this.
